FRANKLIN VNA OFFERS HOSPICE VOLUNTEER TRAINING STARTING TODAY

FRANKLIN — Franklin Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, in conjunction with the Peabody Home, will offer free training for hospice volunteers beginning March 14. The Franklin VNA usually holds hospice volunteer training classes once a year. The new class will take place on six consecutive Wednesday afternoons from 2-4 p.m., starting on March 14 and concluding on April 18. Classes will be held at Peabody Home, located at 24 Peabody Place in Franklin. Pre-registration is required.

“Hospice volunteers are adult men and women of all ages and backgrounds who have a desire to help their friends and neighbors and to serve the community," Rev. Tobias Nyatsambo, Hospice Chaplain and Volunteer Coordinator for the VNA, said. "They are key members of the Hospice team that help our clients and their families deal with illness, grief, and loss. Franklin VNA’s Hospice program is well established and is growing. Hospice volunteers are needed to provide patient and family support, fundraising and administrative support, and help with special events. Volunteers in hospice find it personally gratifying and emotionally meaningful to assist those in need at a critical point in their lives. At the VNA, we like to say ‘Hospice volunteers can change lives – maybe even their own.’ Working with the Peabody Home staff on this training has been a wonderful experience. We look forward to combining our efforts again in the future.”

To ensure that all volunteers are equipped for the challenge of working with their patients, the VNA requires that volunteers complete this six-week training and also submit to a routine background check. For more information or to register for the hospice volunteer classes, contact Nancy at Franklin VNA & Hospice at 603-934-3454.
