Peabody Home is thrilled to share that one of our own volunteers, Wanda Belyea of Franklin was presented with a 2019 Vaughan Award for her outstanding work as a senior volunteer who helps enrich the lives of older adults.

The Department of Health and Human Services, along with Governor Chris Sununu, the State Committee on Aging, and EngAGING New Hampshire, honored outstanding senior volunteers at the Joseph A. Vaughan Awards at the New Hampshire State House in Concord on May 6.  Each May, during Older Americans Month, the awards are presented to one individual in each of the state’s ten counties in recognition of exemplary volunteer efforts on behalf of New Hampshire’s older adults. Wanda was the recipient for Merrimack County.

Wanda is a retired registered nurse who started volunteering with Peabody Home in 2015 serving as a corporate member.  She went on to become a member of the Board of Managers as well as our Steering Committee and Building Committee.  For the past two years, she has also volunteered every Friday morning to spend time with our residents.  They look forward to one on one visits with her and feel better when she is around.  She chats with them, plays cribbage, reads stories to them, takes them out for walks, plays the piano for them, helps with special events, and more.  She is always willing to help, and we could not be more appreciative.

Meg Miller, Peabody Home Executive Director expressed, “I cannot think of another person who has dedicated her free time after retirement to improve the quality of life for older adults more than Wanda.”

Congratulations Wanda!
