Lions Club Bench Donation Ribbon Cutting

September 17, 2018

In celebration of 100 years of Lions Club International, the Franklin Area Lions Club participated in the Centennial Community Legacy Project by joining in on a city bench contest where businesses and organizations in the community could artistically design benches that would be placed along Central Street in Franklin.

The president of the Franklin Area Lions Club came up with the idea to design a bench to honor those who served in the Franklin community.

The bench is proudly placed at Peabody Home and represents the Lions who passed, but will always be with us in spirit. The bench specifically honors Lion Samuel Grooms and past President, Heather Makechnie, who served from July 1, 2011 - July 7, 2016.

Pictured above is Arthur Makechnie, husband of late Heather Makechnie, cutting the ribbon on the new bench memorial.
